Sailboats
Mid Bay Sailing owns and operates three sailboats. Through our courses, we'll use all three. Experience on these vessels will help you translate your skills to your own boat or any you might charter.
J/80 "Mud Bug"
Sailboats made to the J/80 one-design class specification are renowned for stability, safety, and ease of handling. The large open layout is comfortable for classes with up to four participants, providing ample room and hands-on opportunity for everyone.
"Mud Bug" is joy to handle in the conditions we commonly experience in the Choctawhatchee Bay area. It is easy to set up and take out from our slip at Bluewater Bay Marina, so that we have more time on the water to learn.
The Experience Sailing and ASA 101: Basic Keelboat Sailing courses are taught using this boat.
Additional specs and information for the curious can be found at:
Beneteau 331”Ahie”
For the advanced sailing courses, we have a Beneteau 331 cruising sailboat. This is a common boat in the coastal Florida area, providing comfortable live-aboard features similar to those you may be looking for in your own boat.
Featuring a full kitchen, forward and aft berths, and a full head, your experience on this boat will help you determine what size and features you want for your own boat!
The Experience Cruising, ASA 103: Basic Coastal Cruising and ASA 104: Bareboat Cruising Courses are taught on this boat.
Specifications are available from Sailboatdata.com's Oceanis 331 (Beneteau) page.
Jeanneau 389 “Soffietta”
For the advanced sailing courses and charters, we also have a Jeanneau 389. This is a comfortable modern cruising boat with many of the features you would find chartering a boat in the Caribbean.
The Jeanneau offers in-mast furling, electric winch, bow thruster and modern electronics.
The ASA 104: Bareboat Cruising and charters are conducted aboard this boat.
Admiral 40 “ Donna Lee”
We teach ASA 114 “Cruising Catamaran” and offer catamaran charters.
