Frequently Asked Questions:

What should I bring to the classes?

We recommend bringing sunscreen, a hat, and rain jacket.  We will have water on board, but feel free to bring anything else non-alcoholic on board.  You will also need close-toed non-marking shoes.  We will have lifejackets and gloves for you to wear.

What age of students to you teach?

For the ASA classes, the minimum age is 14. For the experience sailing classes, there isn’t a limit as long as an adult is with them, but we recommend at least 7 years old.

What happens if the Captain determines the weather isn't good for training?

We will work to find another date the works for your schedule to complete the training or offer a refund if you not able to reschedule.

I have some experience, but want to take the advanced courses.  Is there a way to skip ahead?

We offer an option to challenge ASA 101 and ASA 103 standards.  It is about a 4 hour class where you take the test and then demonstrate the sailing requirements.

What do I need to do to prepare for the class?

Once you sign up for the class, we will mail you the course material so you can review it prior to the class.

I don’t see a scheduled class that will work with my schedule. Do you offer classes at different times?

We are flexible with scheduling and can work with you to get a class accomplished, just give us a call.

I just bought a boat, can you accomplish training on my boat?

We have the option to accomplish the classes on your boat, but we do require a minimum of 2 students for a weekend class if it will be aboard your boat.

Do you offer the International Certificate of Competency?

Once you complete the ASA 104 you can request the certificate from ASA for a $35 fee.
