Everything You Need to Know When Renting a Sailboat Through MidBay Sailing
Cancellation / Deposit Fees
We maintain shared boats among classes, charters and rentals so we must charge deposits to reserve booking days. Our sailboat rental deposit schedule is:
Non-holiday bookings: 20% deposit required to reserve your scheduled rental; refundable if cancelled more than 30 days from start of booking
Holiday bookings: 20% deposit required to reserve your scheduled rental; refundable if cancelled more than 60 days from start of booking
MidBay Sailing reserves the right to cancel a rental reservation with a full refund up to the start of the booking, for reasons such as inclement weather and safety. We endeavor to communicate with you about your rental dates as the weather forecast and other contingencies become more clear and to provide as much notice as possible in the unlikely event we do have to cancel or reschedule your rental dates.
Marine Weather Forecasts
We recommend SailFlow or Windfinder for your marine weather forecasts. Please be sure to check tidal charts in a tool like Navionics, especially when planning on passing under any bridges.
MidBay Sailing is unable to forecast or guarantee pleasant weather conditions. Please keep current on the weather forecast before and during your charter We will be happy to assist charter guests but will not take any responsibility for weather conditions. All of our overnight capable boats have biminis and cabins that make a charter enjoyable regardless of rain!
Upon Your Return - Checking In
At your journey’s end, your boat is due back at the marina by 5pm on your final day. This will give you plenty of time to disembark at the dock.
Plan to arrive at the fuel dock for our staff to meet you
If you chose the Express Check In option, our staff will handle fueling up and pumping out. If you’re ready you may disembark at the fuel dock.
Otherwise, plan to purchase fuel to fill the vessel and pump it out on arrival. The marina staff will assist you - please remember to tip them as a courtesy for their work
When checking back in, we ask that you:
Double check all personal items are packed - the fridge and cockpit lockers are common places things get left behind
Remove and discard all trash in the dockside bins
Gather used bedding in each berth - stuffing the sheets into a pillowcase is appreciated
Gather wet and damp towels into the head
Let our staff know of any issues you observed
Boat Check-Out Briefing
Your on-board briefing captain will provide a thorough review of the boat’s systems, communication and safety review, take care of any final paperwork or answer questions prior to your charter.
During this time we will establish a float plan covering where you plan to venture, good anchorages, and other local knowledge.
The technical briefing will last between 30 minutes to 1 hour depending on topics covered and familiarity with the boat.
Cooking, Provisioning and Grocery
Our overnight charter boats have fully outfitted galleys, including a propane stove, grill, cookware, cutlery, utensils, cups, plates and dishes. Coffee pots (or french press) are also provided. There is a 12v DC fridge for your cold storage needs as well.
There are two grocery stores within a 10 minute drive of the marina - Publix and Winn-Dixie.
When bringing groceries on board, please plan to discard all cardboard packaging dockside. This will minimize the chance that pests join your journey, and will make stowing items easier.
What To Bring on an Overnight Sailboat Rental
(and what to avoid)
It’s hard to know what you’ll miss if you leave it behind. Most of the time chartering guests overpack; here’s some guidelines to help.
We provide sheets, blankets, pillows, bath towels, hand towels, paper towels, marine toilet paper and trash bags.
You’ll want to bring beach towels for swimming, along with any other water gear.
One or two fishing poles and lures for casting and trolling add to the fun - don’t forget to purchase your Florida saltwater fishing license (available at WalMart and Bass Pro).
A wind and rain proof jacket will provide comfort and warmth when the wind and rain pick up.
Please wear nonmarking (light colored sole) shoes
There are a few small inverters on each boat, but don’t plan to bring larger AC electrical appliances (crock pots, coffee makers, hair dryers and curlers will only work in the slip and will take up a lot of room)
12v DC cigarette lighter chargers will be your best method for topping up your phone
